Make sure you are familiar with the Assessment requirements. There is video guidance on preparing your lesson plan and your practical: CLICK HERE
There are several parts to the assessment.
1. Online knowledge assessment
After your second session you will be complete an online quiz and you need to achieve 80% to pass. You can access the Knowledge Quiz here: https://forms.gle/p6KG8dHH8DzXSyrSA
2. Scheme of Work (SOW)
You will write a 12 session SOW based on 1 or 2 sessions/lessons per week. This should be a progressive SOW and you can use this template (or design your own which includes the same infornation):
3. Lesson Plan
You will select a lesson from your SOW and plan this lesson in detail. This is the lesson plan that you will teach for your practical observation. To ensure you cover all the required elements we strongly suggest you use the template below. If it is not appropriate/possible for you to deliver a lesson from your SOW then you can prepare a lesson plan to underpin a session that you can teach on a club night.
There is a guidance video on completing your lesson plan HERE
Please use the Mark Scheme to check your lesson plan before submission.
IMPORTANT: The SOW and Lesson Plan must be submitted and signed off before you film/deliver your practical exam class for assessment.
4. Practical teaching
If not being observed live you will do a video of your lesson. This can be done as a whole class or as a modular submission. Please see assessment booklet for details.
You can upload your video and share this with your tutor/assessor e.g. through your own One Drive, Google Drive. You can also look at one off tranfers through e.g. https://www.transfernow.net depending on how large your files are. You can also send video on DVD or USB through the post. Ask for address details.
IMPORTANT: If submitting on video you must film so that you and the students are visible throughout. It’s not essential that every student is visible at all times. But the video should not be just you presenting to camera. You must have at least 5 students in your class.
The assessor’s checklist can be found in the assessment booklet. This lists all the things you must evidence in your teachiing in order to pass. It would be advisable to read this before you film your class to ensure you cover everything required. Video guidance on interpreting the practical assessment checklist can be FOUND HERE
If a few things “go wrong” during the class you can reflect on these in your self-evaluation (see No 5 below). Your assessor can use your reflective evaluation alongside your video. However please note that you can’t replace evidence of a practical skill with a personal written statement.
5. Reflective evaluation of your taught class
Your chance to look back on your taught class and reflect on what went well and what could have been improved. Use this worksheet:
This is your opportunity to reflect on the session and this will complete the coaching cycle
6. Evaluation of another teacher’s class
You will complete this assessment to show how you have applied your knowledge of coaching to comment on someone else’s teaching style/skills. If you prefer not to use an instructor from your own club we have a selection of curated videos you can use for this purpose. There is no set format – see assessment booklet for guidance.
NB if you are attending a live F2F version of the coaching course with a live assessment you might be exempt from completeing this assessment – please check with your tutor
